They Told Their Stories - a preview on JOANNA
This year our Women's Conference will focus on empowering women to tell their own unique story. There is nothing like a good story to inspire us! When that happens to me, I want to share my own story! That's what we are hoping for our gathering this year and we'll learn about the women that traveled with Jesus. Here's a little preview on JOANNA (Lk 8:2).
Joanna was one of the "women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities" (Lk 8:2) by Jesus and who then accompanied him and his disciples on their travels to spread the Gospel. She was a woman of means Joanna was a woman of means, the wife of Chuza, Herod Antipas's steward. Along with Mary Magdalene and Susanna, she helped provide the entourage with food and other necessities. That Jesus welcomed women into his inner circle was another example of his break with the rigid social distinctions of his day. Joanna was also one of those who traveled with Jesus on his last journey from Galilee to Jerusalem and, after his crucifixion, was present at his burial. I am certain that her story helped to create a climate for receptivity of Jesus' message of the Kingdom. Women will be coming to our gathering in February 2010 whose stories illuminate the Kingdom on earth. I am delighted to have as a featured speaker, Deacon Dorothy Saucedo, a Navajo believer from Fort Defiance, Arizona. Our Saturday evening session will be a Native American Story of courage and faith.
To be inspired by women today, SIGN UP for our women's conference - "THEY TOLD THEIR STORIES" - Feb. 26 - 28, 2010.Visit my blog and FB - Join the conversation!

Dorothy SaucedoFeatured Speaker for Beauty for Ashes 2010Dorothy (Natonabah) Saucedo Dine’ I am a member of the Red Running in the Water Clan (Ta’chi’nii’); Born for the Tangle People Clan (Tah’nai’zah’nii’)My maternal grand parents are of the Bitter Water Clan (Toda’chi’nii’); My paternal grand parents are of the Towering House Clan (Kiya’ahi’nii’)When we introduce ourselves in this manner, one does not need to say their name because this identifies who you are in relation to those around you and the Dine’ would address you accordingly, i.e. Sister, Mother, Aunt, etc. I am a member of the Dine’ Nation (Navajo) and reside in Tempe, Arizona. I was baptized into the Episcopal Church on Dec 25, at 9 months old in Fort Defiance many years ago. My mother, Nellie, was a devout Episcopalian all her life but she never forgot her roots of the Dine’ spiritual practices and beliefs. She was able to intertwine both into one and in doing so, taught us, her children, to do the same. We embraced the church and its teaching but we continue to practice our Dine’ spiritual beliefs because that is who we are – we are Dine’ the Creator’s children - as we are all. Many years ago, at a young age while attending boarding school in Fort Defiance, I first heard my name being called. I went through school, college, got married to Bill (who was called home 15 years ago to be with his Creator), blessed with a beautiful daughter and all this time I kept hearing my name being called. It was not until I moved home in 2001 that I realized who was calling me all these many years. On December 6th, 2008 I was ordained a Transitional Deacon within the Four Sacred Mountains of the Dine’ Nation at Good Shepherd Mission. Today I serve at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Tempe, Arizona and Good Shepherd Mission in Fort Defiance, Arizona. It is a unique assignment in that I serve as the bridge between two cultures and I love it. In time, I hope to be ordained Priest within the Episcopal Church – my work continues in Christ. Hear the rest of the story in February 2010………May the Creator bless you and keep you safe everyday.
